Caño Island

This place is also considered the best snorkeling and diving area of the country. Especially because of the visibility of about 20 meters deep (65 feet). In the crystal clear waters lives a great variety of different species such as: turtles, whales and reef sharks. Also, a quiet path on the island will lead you on a beautiful walk exploring the island. Caño Island is also known for being an ancient indigenous cemetery.

The ranger station provides visitor information outdoor fresh water showers and bathrooms. There are picnic tables on the beach front and hammocks. Reservations are required as limited amounts of visitors are permitted daily. There are no overnight facilities on the island. Camping is not permitted.

How to get there from Villas Rio Mar?

The only way to get to Island is by boat and reservation.

We offer daily tours to the Island, we depart early in the morning between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. The meeting point and departure point is the Marino Ballena Park in Uvita. From Dominical it takes about 25 minutes to get there by car and then you will take a comfortable boat ride to Caño Island.

What to bring: sun block, insect repellent, sandals, binoculars, hat, swimsuit, towel, camera and plastic bags for your camera.
