Set on the banks of the Barú river, located 800 mtrs from the beach and surrounded by impressive tropical forests, the jungle resort Villas Rio Mar awaits you with traditional friendly hospitality.

Villas Río Mar is situated 21 miles (35 km) from the town of San Isidro del General on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica and approximately 25 miles (40 km) from Quepos, a short walk from Dominical Village and it’s beautiful, tropical beach. It’s a three hour drive on a good paved road from San José, through an incredible landscape, containing several microclimates and varied flora.

Natural environment

The area has an average temperature of 83F (28C) and is green year round. There is a dry season from November through April. During the rest of the year, the mornings are usually sunny but it may rain in the afternoon. This is the best time of the year for nature lovers.

Tourism in Costa Rica is focused on nature and eco-adventure. Well, everything in this field can be done from Dominical. Within an hour you can visit Manuel Antonio National park, the Chirripo Mountains, beautiful bays along the coast to the South, lonely beaches fully decorated with palm trees, the National Park ”Marino Ballena” in Uvita, the Nauyaca waterfalls near Dominical, and many other tropical spots. For surfing, fishing, and diving you will be at an excellent place.

How to get here?

By private transfer

We offer our guests the service to be picked up at the airport or your hotel in San José and be brought to Hotel Villas Rio Mar in Dominical or any other part of Costa Rica.

The hotel van has room for max. 10  people with luggage. Our transportation service is from 1 to 4 people and every other extra person has a charge of $10.

TRANSPORT SERVICES

If you are coming with a larger group we can also arrange transfer for up to 25 people with luggage.  Let us know if you need a transfer for more than 10 people with luggage.

Getting to VRM by public bus

From San Jose, there are two routes leading to Dominical.

Cartago-San Isidro-Dominical
Take the Pan-American High way south, through the Cerro de la Muerte, descending through the mountains to Dominical.

Go to the Musoc Bus Station (in San José) then take the bus to San Isidro del  General. (cost of the ticket $8.00 approximately) The bus ride will take about 3 Hours. Once in San Isidro, go to the Transportes Blanco Bus Station take a bus to Dominical, which leaves 4 times a day:

7:30 a.m.
11:30 a.m.
3:30 p.m.
4:00 p.m.

(Cost of the ticket $ 3.5 approximately)  Bus ride will take about 1.5 hour.

Another  option is to take a taxi from the bus station in San Isidro to Dominical/Hotel Villas Rio Mar (50 min.) which costs about $ 40.00 – Check out Costa Rica’s bus schedule. Costa Rica’s bus schedule here

Jaco-Quepos-Dominical
This is a new road, possibly the besting Costa Rica fully paved, this route is through the Pacific coast. This is the best route if you are coming from the airport in San Jose. by public bus: Go to the Tracopa Bus Station (in San José) then take the bus to Dominical (cost of the ticket $10.00 approximately) The bus ride will take about 4 ½ Hours.

By car

By car, it is a pleasant 4 hour trip through scenic mountains. From San José, take the Pan-American Highway south towards Cartago and then to San Isidro and on to Dominical. If you are not coming from San José, there are alternative routes you can take to Dominical. Click on the map image for a detailed view.
When entering Dominical, follow the Villas Rio Mar signs that will lead you a road that passes under a bridge along the river to the hotel.

By plane
