Departing early in the morning (6 am) from Hotel Villas Rio Mar through the Costanera road along the Pacific Ocean for about
90 minutes to get to Sierpe town, where there is 30 minutes stop for breakfast in 'Oleaje Sereno' restaurant (not included).
After breakfast you will be taking a comfortable boat for 40 minutes to Corcovado National Park through the biggest mangrove swamps in Central America, chances to spot up to 4 species of monkeys, crocodiles, snakes, a great variety of birds and also one of the biggest islands in Costa Rica (Violines Island).
From the Sierpe river mouth to the park you will get a view of the most scenic places in the country like Drake bay and
Marenco Biological Reserve. There will be chances to spot the humpback, pilot and killer whales. When we get to the park
you will be introduced by your professional guide into 3 hour walk through one of the most typically primary forest in the country.
Ending the trails at the ranger's station, a delicious picnic lunch is served surrounded by the richest natural atmosphere. After that spectacular journey you come back to Sierpe and you will enjoy a mini tour into the Siepre Mangrove Swamp looking for snakes, crocodiles, birds, etc. You will be arriving at Hotel Villas Rio Mar late evening.

IMPORTANCE OF THE PARK Protecting approximately 54,539 hectares of humid rain forest and 2,400 hectares of ocean, Corcovado has become an international attraction since it was founded in 1975. It is home to almost 400 species of birds, 140 species of mammals and 116 species of reptiles and amphibians and also 6000 species of insects. 6 natural eco-systems have been identified in the park and it protects endangered species such as the jaguar, puma, crocodile, tapir, poison dart and golden frogs and the harpy eagle. The rain forest is also home to numerous plants and insects that can serve as valuable information to scientific and medical discovery. It is the best place in Costa Rica to catch a glimpse of the diverse wildlife that exists in the country. |
