The border of the island has white sand beaches and a well protected inshore coral reef. The best spot of Costa Rica for scuba diving and snorkeling because of its visibility about 20 meters deep and has lots of species of fish, turtles, manta rays, dolphins and whales. A well maintained trail leads uphill into a rain forest environment where you can see trees 50 meters high. Pre-Columbian tombs are scattered along the trail. The island was a place generated by the indigenous people of the southern zone of Costa Rica.
