Today June 8 Villas Rio Mar Hotel joins the celebration of this day of remembrance. The official designation of the World Oceans Dayis an opportunity to raise global awareness of the challenges facing the international community in relation to the oceans.
The entire team of Hotel Villas Rio Mar has been committed to protecting our beautiful South Pacific Ocean. We have organized and carried out periodic cleaning of Playa Dominical avoiding much of the trash that people without conscience strip does not reach the sea. We know that this effort is not sufficient for this reason we want to invite every one to participate in our project for garbage collection.
Many people see the oceans and see only water, but it’s not just water, is much more than that, is a huge body of water full of life, is a powerful engine that drives the rest of the planet to life.
It provides more than half the oxygen we breathe. A healthy ocean contributes to economic growth and development.
Because the seas and oceans cover 71% of the surface of the Earth, 360 million km2 and 97% of ground water resources.
Because they are an important source of biological and natural resources, comparable or even higher than tropical forests.
Because they are also an economic resource and a reserve of energy sources, and are essential regulators of the Earth’s climate and highly productive systems that continuously recycle chemicals, nutrients and water.
Because 40% of the world’s population lives within 60 km of the coast and 35 million people depend on fishing.
Because they are an essential source of food and employment, providing natural routes of communication, transportation and trade.
They are fundamental, are part of our lives.
Because we assume that we have things that we are losing is that we may not realize that life without the reefs there are no beaches for surf, no fishing, no places for diving, snorkeling and then what will happen to tourism?
Because we have changed the oceans, reduced by 90% the big fish of the sea, caused adverse effects in all types of marine species
Because our oceans are dying and the world population is increasing. What is happening to us? Worse, what is happening to our future? Only 2% of the ocean is protected, if we do not stop getting sick and destroy our oceans we will have the same fate.
Because ifwe do not makea change now, we’re going to die. The world needs anew philosophy, a change of mentality, not a philosophy of competition but of cooperation.
